Yup, that should do the trick. The enemies in the Dead Dunes will kick your ass; just go there to pick up the garb (the outfitter is right outside the train station) and head back to Luxerion.

The Wildlands gets a lot easier once you get a chocobo -- that's one of the main questlines there. (Also Lightning with the chocobo is the cutest thing ever, omfg.)

As for me, been playing Bravely Default. I did not realize I wanted a spiritual successor to FF5 but now that I have it I am never letting it go.
