Holy balls, Aku!!! 0_0 This layout, it's so unique and amazing! I love it! I don't even like sports manga but I find myself glued to your writing, wanting to know more (and see more of your incredible design). Ahhh, so elegant!! T_T/

Omg the layout is fantastic and I really like how your split the page up with the insert sections, and the contrast they provide. It looks so pretty. :inlove:

Can't wait for more pages!

Hey there! I love your new layout (And the title, Long Live the King) - do you have a 200 x 40 button for your site yet so I can link it for the Amassment event post? :)

HOWDY YA'LL LONG TIME NO SEE... just lowkey here on the last day of Construction Zone making an update... :eyes: Before I say anything in regards to the progress I've made on this shrine since my last post (my first one LOL), let me say "thank you!!" to everyone who dropped by and left such sweet comments on this thread that I pretty much abandoned. :sob: I'm sorry my response is so late, but I really appreciate your kind and helpful words!
Image
So I only recently started working on this again about 2 months ago! (After burning myself out a few months into it & dropping it to work on another shrine.) I set two deadlines for myself: Kageyama's Birthday (Dec 22) and the end of CZ (today), so what I finished the event with is kind of a culmination of things that were done for those milestones.
  • - Decided my shrine title, Long Live the King!!
    - Created the homepage design and made minor tweaks to content pages (mostly font).
    - One section established & written out: King of the Court.
    - Also got up (pretty crappy) versions of my Sitely section for me to start dumping stuff into that I can organize later.
----

I guess as a "Construction Zone Summary/Moving Forward" of sorts, since the event is ending today: I definitely didn't get as far as I'd have liked to on this shrine (I elaborate a bit on my "Site" page), but I am really happy with the strides I made in the past month or two. The plan is to keep moving forward with this into 2017! I'll probably be taking a break from the pretty intense analyzing/writing I've been doing to continue re-reading Haikyuu!! I imagine I'll also be doing some cleaning up on what I've got thus far. (Which right now, is all a huge mess, because I've been designing/coding on the fly).

In regards to design I think the home page aesthetic is definitely going more in the direction that I want: actual content page-wise I'd still like to go through and finesse. (You might notice a slight lack of consistency and that's more or less because I've just been playing with some ideas... WIP!) I think moving forward I will probably not be focusing so heavily on getting the design "right", because it's now at a place where design decisions need a bit more UX thought behind it, and those decisions are difficult to make without having actual content to design an "experience" around. I will continue using my current content page format as a means for laying out content + images I want on those pages, though.

That's about it from me! I am gonna go and try to enjoy New Year's Eve with some relaxation and video games AND NOT STARING AT WORDS!! But I will definitely catch up with where everyone else's projects landed soon! :blush:

I AM FINALLY READING THIS (PEEKED AT IT A WHILE AGO OFC) AND OMG I'M SO OVERCOME WITH EMOTIONS THIS IS SO ASDKLASJDL AND SO FULL OF LOVE ON SO MANY DIFFERENT FRONTS TT_________TT

The reasoning behind the title (good job, Delphine!!) and the WINGS in the header. ;__________; <3 YOUR ROYAL CROW COLOUR SCHEME, HAIKYUU/HINATA'S ORANGE, AND THE WAY THE COLOURS ELEGANTLY CHANGE ON THE INDEX PAGE.

Ok knowing myself I am going to start every other sentence with "I love", so let's just... do this. I love:
  • that the introduction to the series is written as the history of Karasuno.
  • the gorgeously edited manga panels and the seamless way images of all sizes and cuts blend into the layout's various background colours :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: this is the highlight of the shrine for me :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: the authentic manga experience made even better :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: showcasing manga and the impact of panels on a shrine as part of the content :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: highlighting what you want to focus on :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: ... :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :heart:
  • the nuance on the Kageyama/Oizawa page, how beautifully you wrote about two very similar and very different setters and persons. ;_______; OK FOLKS WE NEED MORE HAIKYUU SHRINES RIGHT NOW.
  • that you've spent so many different pages breaking down Kageyama's past and the conflicting sentiments within him at the start and in the early parts of the series (rather than just put it all on one page), and how strongly you've carved this shrine around the themes of fears, uncertainty, crushing expectations, stifling perfection - the parts that speak to you the most, I assume. By doing so, you show much there is to both Kageyama, volleyball, and what volleyball means to Kageyama, and that's so beautiful. ;_;
  • the solemn tone throughout this shrine, and the quiet introspection that comes with it; the layout with its amount of empty space complements this so well. It's nice to see a sports shrine in this style. ;_;
  • the amount of quotes there are on this shrine without it seeming overbearing or repetitive (something I always worry about /bangs head against wall), which is also because you have worked them into the shrine in at least three different ways... :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob:
(You might notice a slight lack of consistency and that's more or less because I've just been playing with some ideas... WIP!)
To be honest, this doesn't strike me as something negative. It's not so much lack of consistency as it is continuous surprise elements in some modified sections, and I do feel that they all form a harmonious whole in style and impact, so nothing feels out of place!! It just... keeps you excited for what you novel things you'll see within a certain box, I luv it so much. ;_;
I honestly think that volleyball is a bit of a LANGUAGE for the socially-awkward Kageyama.
:sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob: :sob:

I'm so glad you managed to get back into this project (else I would have sobbed forever) - good job showing up on the last day of CZ. ;_; I really, really enjoyed reading your thoughts in the site section, and love how lengthy and personal the update log is. Just reading your thoughts on what Kageyama personally means to you, seeing the theme of this shrine, and seeing what it means for you to have got this content up for Construction Zone makes me feel like this is exactly why we need Construction Zone. ;_; YAY for getting over hurdles bit by bit!!

AKU IS SO COOL EHEHEHEHEHE. :music:

Cough up 88x31 buttons for me to link this shrine with. :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: :eyes:

ALRIGHT!! I HAVE READ HALF OF THIS SHRINE BEFORE WATCHING HAIKYUU AND NOW HAVE REREAD IT AFTER WATCHING THE FIRST SEASON OF HAIKYUU. :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: I watched the anime because of this shrine, AKU!!! I'm not disappointed. I'm very invested in these volleyball boys now. :eyes:

The whole layout design is so nice. I really like the contrast between the header on the index and the content pages! The little details like the crows! Everything is great. ALSO I LOVE THE NAME OF THE SITE and what it means to you + Kags. I can't wait to see this evolve more. :inlove: THE WAY you display the characters is so cool? OK like I DIDN'T NOTICE THAT THEY WERE ALL THERE BEFORE? I PROBABLY JUST READ ONE AND KEPT ON SCROLLING LAST TIME. but how awesome! Also love that I can click and drag. :sob: :sob:

I really enjoyed reading about Kageyama through your eyes, and your love letter section is beautiful. I really liked your discussion about what he goes through/feels because I was definitely feeding off of that energy in the match I just watched. :sob: I really liked the section discussing Oikawa ( :eyes: ) and their relationship dynamic written in a way to emphasize Kageyama's fears still. My favorite so far, but I LOVE EVERYTHING. Echoing Lethe, the tone of the site is really great and a good contrast to how goofy the anime is.

And to MEGAN who listens to me cry about Kags the worm every. single. day. And hasn't even read Haikyuu??
I'M CRYING. OK BUT :eyes: :eyes: :eyes: I'VE STARTED WATCHING IT SO WHAT NOW, AKU?!?! but you're welcome!!! love listening to kags the worm sobbings and it also is probably why i checked out the series in the first place

I'VE GOT ONE MORE THING TO SAY ABOUT THIS SHRINE!!!

OMG my cute friends... _(´ཀ`」 ∠)_ HUGS YOU ALL. :heart: Thank you so much for spending time with lil Kags. :heart:

@Robin: Thank you so much Robin!! <33 You're a big inspiration to me because you're so productive/good at hammering things out! (And I've already used some of the quotes you helped me with before! ;~;)

@Lethe: Lethe, thank you for all your kind comments and feedback, I'm crying!! :sob: For whatever reason Haikyuu!! when I watched it was a very emotional/personal experience for me (maybe, Kageyama specifically) and I'm glad that to some effect it comes across in the writing! I know we talked a bit on how Haikyuu!! ] is such a quotable manga, and I definitely ran into the problem of over-quoting (UGH LIKE WHAT CAN YOU DO WHEN EVERY OTHER LINE IS SO CUTE & INSPIRING), which is how I felt the manga panels came into play. I'm glad they don't seem inconsistent to you, though! I definitely want to play with the idea a bit more and see if I can't push it a bit because Haikyuu tends to get a bit lengthy quotaion-wise, but are so worth citing for their beauty. :nolove:

@Megan: MEGAN!! You don't know how happy it makes me that lil KAGS helped to inspire you into watching Haikyuu!! :sob: :sob: :sob: I need to fix the little Karasuno carousel when I do a design sweep over all the content pages bc I don't think it quite reads as a carousel right now (that plugin was askdjfasd to get to work for me...) but I'm glad you liked it! AND THAT YOU LIKED OIKAWA'S SECTION EVEN THOUGH HE'S HISOKA ( :eyes: ). I was a little worried about the whole thing seeming too forced so I'm happy to hear it read well for you. I won't let you down!! You ranting to me about Haikyuu makes me want to continue working on it, tbh. :sob:

Th-thank you for all your n-naf... niffs... knife... NICE FEEDBACK EVERYONE. :heart: I'll continue to push forward!
