La Poupée qui fait non (Sky Doll)

Post by nyxmidnight »

Allow me to open the board with a humble shrine created for the Paperback Marathon!

La Poupée qui fait non (The doll that goes "no") (warning: Boobs and butts)

This is my shrine to an Italian bande dessinée called Sky Doll. It tells the story of a gynoid created for sexual exploitation who, unlike all other robots like her, can dream and retain memories. I swear it's not a pornographic series guys! The series currently has 4 books out of 5 out, and the next volume will be the last of the main story. I personally read it in French, though Marvel has picked up the first 3 volumes and at least 1 volume of side stories (and heavily censored them).

My main beef with the current shrine is how empty and devoid of content it is. It's just a tiny dash of non-spoilery info and little else, in two languages. I've been wanting to revamp it with the release of book 4, but when I look at it I don't know where to start. Thus, I turn to you, Amassment. Help me make an interesting, full-fledged shrine with this!

Unless you want to keep the shrine strictly as an introduction (in the sense of a sneak peek into the series), I'd be interested in seeing you expand it with more info sections - they don't even have to go full analysis mode if you want to keep text sections short, yet still convey more than there already is. Suggestions:
  • significance/meaning of the title
  • themes (and symbols if there are any)
  • unique things about the art style since it's a visual medium
  • longer character profiles; you could also leave them as is, but then link each name to a separate page with more info
  • what kind of dreams and memories does Noa have? this could be part of her character profile, it could be part of the themes section, it could have its own section
  • do dolls interact with each other? does Noa interact with other dolls? if interaction is different due to her possessing things others don't, how does it manifest?
  • you mention missionaries multiple times, but what exactly do they want? why is Noa hiding from them? why do they want to replace Lodovica with Agape?
  • worldbuilding (can be part of the Lodovica/Agape/background pages)
  • covering different planets and pointing out differences in the races and cultures perhaps? or what role they play or what themes they convey in the series?
  • depiction of sex both as part of storytelling (how is carnal love depicted, is it bad, is this why Agape ought to come back?) and as part of a visual medium ("I swear it's not a pornographic series guys"), how do the dolls explicitly come in if there's something to add beyond what you've stated about their purpose, how is society framed?
  • "their struggle to survive in a merciless media world" what do you mean by media world and what role does media play in the story? I saw it being mentioned in your introduction, but it seems absent from the rest of the site.
  • I'd love to see more images, either on the respective pages (characters maybe?) or in a media section; it doesn't have to be a library, but because it's a visual medium, seeing more art beyond the covers would be lovely!
I haven't read the series though, so these are just suggestions from an interested outsider. :>

Let's see...from one stuck shrine-maker to another (LOL), here's a few things you could do to get the creative juices running again:

1. Write up a summary of Volume 4 in the same style that you've done the other 3 volumes (interesting "hook" paragraph).
2. If desired, write up a longer synopsis for each volume (with images, like Lethe mentioned). You can then organize that information however works best, like putting them on separate pages and linking each of the pages to the hook paragraphs on your "albums.php" page.
3. Write an article about what got you interested in this series. How did you hear about it? What kept you reading? What is the most important thing you got out of the work?
