Image Hey, Amassment! Here is our first Challenge of 2015. Welcome to Old School!

This Challenge will hopefully spark some feelings of nostalgia as we make shrines to things that many of us grew up watching, reading, and playing. Sites made for Old School will be dedicated to subjects from the 20th Century. We are looking for subjects that debuted between January 1, 1901 and December 31, 2000.

This Challenge is looking for sites dedicated to classic anime like Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Cardcaptor Sakura, classic video games like Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, and Sonic the Hedgehog, and classic Marvel and DC subjects like X-Men, Spider-Man, Superman, and Batman. Additionally, subjects like older Disney movies, older TV Shows, and older literature are all fair game. The neat thing about Old School subjects are that many of them are relevant today. X-Men movies are still being released today. Mario games are still being made. Many movies, anime, and video games from our childhoods have also recently been remade. Chances are, you are a fan of something that you don't even realize came from the 20th Century.

Grab your walkman, unpack your SNES, drag out your vintage comics, and dust off those VHS tapes. Let's get to shrining!

Guidelines

You may sign up anytime during the course of the challenge.

Your shrine must have at least five articles/essays. This is a new rule for events, but one we want to implement so that we can allow one page shrines to be made for this challenge (We didn't allow them in previous marathons). As long as you have at least five informative or opinionated sections, your shrine can be any size. Shrining a major character and want to make a monster of a site? Awesome. Is the character you're considering more minor, and you just want to make a one pager? That's cool, too.

You may make as many shrines as you'd like during the challenge, but must sign up for each one. Since there is no sign-up deadline, and you can sign up anytime during the challenge, we will only approve one sign-up per member at a time. When you finish and plug a shrine, you may sign up for another. Six months is a long time for an event. We hope several of you make more than one shrine!

Sign-Up

Sign up at this post.

Submit

You can submit your shrine anytime after it is completed. Simply plug your shrine in a new post to this forum. You can talk about your shrine, ask for feedback, or write anything you want in the message area, but your shrine must be linked with a 88x31 button. We'll collect these and link completed shrines below. If you need help posting a button, PM a staffer and we'll help you out!

Please title the subject of your submission post the name of your shrine. For example, if I was plugging Amassment, the subject of my post would be "Amassment".

Say you wanna make one to an old school game and it's had a couple remakes. Say it came out in 94, then a remake in 98 and then another in 2010. How exactly would you go about this? Would you only use the content from the before 2001 release or what?

If a game has remakes/sequels that came out after 2001, you can be approved as long as your shrine is dedicated to the original game, or to both the original and the remake/sequel. For example a character from Final Fantasy IV can be approved as long as both the first game and the sequel are covered. If instead you wanted to cover only the sequel you wouldn't be able to participate.

I think it's okay, but I'll ask anyway: what about Pokémon? If I want to make a site for a Pokémon, I'm guessing only gen I (came out in 1996-99) and gen II (1999/2000) count?

I'm mostly asking because I'm probably gonna make a site for a gen I Pokémon at some point in the next six months and might as well ask if it fits, haha.

Any Pokemon that came out before 2001 is accepted. So yes gen I and gen II Pokemon are fine. :)

Can I sign up with my Blast From the Past topic?

Yes! If you were not able to finish your site for Blast From the Past and your topic fits Old School, feel free to sign up for this new challenge and have more time to work on it. :D

Hey guys! I wanna shrine something that originally came out in the SNES. But mine is not longer available and the game was porter later on the PS in 2001. Now if no content was change would it be okay to sign up with the topic? My Chrono Trigger on SNES is just gone but I have the PS copy. So I was curious if I can use that. I want to shrine the characters and I'm pretty sure the content didn't change.

Chrono Trigger's characters and story are the same on all ports. You are fine.
