Re: Visitor Interaction
I want visitor interaction, but at the same time I kinda don't, if that makes any sense? I'd like to know that people are reading my stuff (after all, that's why I write it, because I want people to read it), but I've also run into multi-posting flamers, trolls, and spammers that have kinda soured m...

Re: Primevère
You might have to resort to using Javascript rollovers if the font's weird height won't behave--I had to do that on one of my layouts. That font too was a beautiful but finicky work of art, lol

Re: Custom "Lifestream" Page? Is It Possible?
I bring goodies! I found a tutorial on own to use SimplePie to build a custom Lifestream page, and I found this video screencast by Chris Coyer too. I knew he had done something like this! It looks simple enough to make work. Let me know if it helps. YAYAYAY /overly excited webdesigner noises I kno...

Re: Layout Inspiration: One-Page Sites/Big Background Images
Parallax! Normally these are done with javascript but I just saw a pure CSS demo for this here: http://blog.keithclark.co.uk/pure-css-parallax-websites/ AWESOME :) I never knew there was a term for it (except for "really cool one-page layout", lol). Definitely will check out the pure CSS ...

Re: What's your fallback layout style?
For me it's either a picture on top and the content under it, or a picture on the left and the content on the right. I use divs too. I usually put the navigation on the picture or on the main page depending on how many sections and subsections there are. Cool! Yeah, I usually do "picture left,...

Re: What are you currently reading?
It's also Fifty Shades of Sexual and Mental Abuse. YEP! A lot of the stuff in the books isn't even sexy or desirable--it's like it's trying too hard to be "gritty" and "realistic," but it just ends up more abusive. I haven't gotten all the way through Book 3 yet (there's a lot m...

Re: Your 404 error page
I tried fooling around with the 404 page back when I first got a domain, and the SHTML file format did something wonky with my "cool and awesome" layout and header... (at least that's what I tell myself). Finally I did make a simple and pleasant 404 page a couple of years back. But it ain'...

Layout Inspiration: One-Page Sites/Big Background Images
I've lately been enchanted with the idea of one-page sites , and specifically those with big, atmospheric background images (even GIFs), like http://www.teamnine.ch/screen.html . It's active without looking busy or stuffed full of info...really neat. ...'Course, I have no idea how to make a site lik...
